Searching for a Sanctuary, a Place to be Yourself?
The following groups may be of particular interest to those in the LGBT community:
THE GAY-LESBIAN-STRAIGHT AFFIRMATION GROUP
The GLSA Group and the Gay & Lesbian Support Group seek to provide a safe and affirming environment for all people – a rainbow sanctuary for the storms of life. With a focus on accepting, respecting, and embracing each other’s differences, the GLSA group gathers to share thoughts and feelings about inclusivity, and plan education and advocacy events. The group usually meets the second Sunday of the month following the second worship service.
Events sponsored by the GLSA group have included workshops featuring nationally known leaders such as the the Rev. Jack Rogers, Rev. Jane Spahr and Chris Glaser, a free showing of the critically acclaimed movie "For the Bible Tells Me So," classes on gay/lesbian concerns, biblical interpretation and transgender issues. The group also sponsored the production of a video, “Called by God, Denied by Us,” which takes an in-depth look at the controversy surrounding full inclusion of gay and lesbian individuals in the life of the church. THE GAY & LESBIAN SUPPORT GROUP
This group seeks to address the emotional and spiritual needs of gays, lesbians, and questioning persons as they confront complex issues and concerns of life. For more information, click here to e-mail Randy.
“GOD OUTSIDE THE BOX” SMALL GROUP
Meeting twice a month on Tuesday evenings, this discussion group explores deep questions of life and expanded concepts of God. For more information, click here to e-mail Ruth.
“We welcome all persons as participants in our congregation, regardless of age, race, gender, marital status, physical condition, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnic background, economic status, or any other human condition.”
