2011 Stewardship
A letter from Dr. Scott Paczkowski, our new senior pastor...
This is a pivotal moment in the life of our congregation. Westminster’s spiritual growth and rich tradition are generous gifts from God. 2 Corinthians is absolutely right. When we are generous givers, God is generous with blessings. The same thing applies to our personal walk of faith. If we “give generously we will reap generously.” God has a special call for each of us individually and as a congregation. It is time to “sow” God’s ministry and make the commitment God desires.
As people of faith, we give not simply to meet a church budget. Our giving is a spiritual discipline, alongside prayer, worship, caring, etc. The Stewardship Committee has been meeting faithfully to prepare and implement this year’s Stewardship Campaign. We will celebrate, challenge and communicate well, so that our 2011 campaign will be strong and our budget will increase.
Enclosed, along with this letter, you will find your pledge card. Faithful Stewardship begins with the prayers you share at your kitchen table, with your bills and home budget in front of you. If you increase your giving by one percent each year, just think how quickly you will be tithing. There is a peace God gives to one who tithes, and God provides blessings to those who trust enough to give sacrificially. I encourage you to experience the spiritual peace God gives a cheerful and sacrificial giver.
Finally, on behalf of the Session, I want to thank you for your giving in previous years. Without your financial commitment to God, our church family would not be able to proclaim the good news of the gospel. Thank you for sharing your faith in this tangible and profound way.
In Christ’s Service, Dr. Scott Paczkowski
What Does Your Offering Support?
EDUCATION & SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT This important area of church life includes all education and spiritual growth programs for children, youth and adults. This portion of the budget funds all Sunday morning opportunities, Westminster Wednesday, small group ministry, nursery and child care, Confirmation, and summer programming.
OUTREACH Central Iowa Shelter & Services, Westminster House, Family Violence Center, Habitat for Humanity, our mission connection with Hungary, after-school ministries, support of our sister community in El Salvador, and many other outreach ministries are included in this area of church life. Providing space and support for the Interfaith Hospitality Network and Everybody Wins! Iowa literacy and mentoring program is another important mission focus. Evangelism, Fall Festival activities, new member care, marketing and the website are also included in this area.
CHURCH LIFE This includes fellowship activities, the work of the Deacons, and the pastoral care activities of the pastors.
WORSHIP & MUSIC This covers a portion of the pastors’ time, our music staff, and support for our choirs, bell choirs and CACTUS Fine Arts camp. The Fine Arts Series is funded through outside gifts.
ADMINISTRATION & PROPERTY This part of the budget helps keep our doors open, helps us maintain this 72,000 square foot building and supports the administrative side of the church. Printing, copying, postage, insurance, utilities, repairs, custodians, office staff and church administrator are all included in this area.
Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
Corinthians 12:27
