Confirmation Sunday: Riley’s Statement

I believe that God the father is the creator of heaven and earth. I believe God had an intention while creating earth, but God rarely intervenes by contradicting the laws of nature. I believe God is loving and forgiving and a safe being to talk to. I believe that God works through us, relying on us to make important changes to the world.

I believe Jesus is 100% human and 100% God, but not on a 200% scale. I believe Jesus died for us and forgave our sins. I believe Jesus understood human emotions and created eternal life. I believe Jesus is a teacher and a preacher. I believe Jesus baptized disciples and was resurrected.

I believe the holy spirit is the presence of God and is an inspiration. I believe the holy spirit guides us through life but doesn’t force us. I believe the holy spirit gives opportunities, and it is up to us as individuals to take them.

I believe the Bible is the word of God and a way to understand God. I believe the Bible is not a history book, but is more a way to understand your own beliefs. I don’t believe the Bible was made to convert or lecture someone else, and I feel like the Bible is oftentimes misused or misinterpreted.

I believe the church is a community and safe haven to figure out your beliefs and an area to worship God. The church community will support and love you on your journey.

I believe we were all made in God's image, but we are our own person. I believe we were made to do what we love while also standing up for what we know is right. I believe we are also called to care for each other and look out for each other; no one being is more important or worthy than another. I believe God works through all of us when we do these things.
